What is Rolfing?
The bodywork that is Rolfing is named after its founder, the American biochemist Dr. Ida Rolf. During a period of over fifty years Dr. Rolf developed a method by which the bodily structure could be
brought back into alignment through a systematic manual treatment of the bodys connective tissue. So Rolfing was born.
Rolfing s objective:
To once more stand, walk, and sit upright without effort. This is achieved through a
probing manual treatment of the bodys
connective tissue the result of which is a
new-found balance both bodily and spiritually.
To whom is Rolfing suited?
- Essentially, anyone who has interest in his or her health.
- People of all ages who wish to get in touch with their body, and who wish to consciously work with their body.
- People with neck-pains, back problems, restricted bodily movements, or other difficulties that are a result of chronic tension patterns, stemming from traumatic events such as sicknesses, accidents, etc.
- Rolfing is ideal for laying a sure foundation bodily and spiritually from which personal or professional changes and alterations can be better dealt with.
- lt is also suited for inner and/or outer changes of posture, in order to improve performance in sport, music, dance, for example.
Results and client feedback:
- Increasewd ground-contact and therefore more stability.
- Significantly fewer cases of headaches and back-pains.
- Disappearance of chronic complaints, either straight or shortly after the Rolfing treatment
- Increased awareness of ones own bodily expression, allowing for better bearing and
- general demeanor, and an increased ability to overcome obstacles and challenges.
- A straight and upright posture, which goes hand in hand with a feeling of lightness.
- Increased self-confidence allowing for a more flexible attitude towards new
situations.

Are Rolfing s results lasting?
The results of the Rolfing treatment are, as experience has shown, durable. The durability is of course varying, as it depends on the individuals way of life and continued attentiveness towards himself or herself.
Important also is to face everyday challenges with conscious awareness.
To be upright is a lifelong challenge: to stand up to life in a flexible and authentic way.

Advice and Help
Rolfing: Walking upright
We all know that a sad person hangs his/her head; a hard-worker often tenses up in the shoulder area and bends his/her back, and so on. Our posture reveals much about our emotional and physical constitution.
The biochemist Ida Rolf (1896-1979) developed from her own observations a holistic system of soft tissue manipulation and movement education, by which she was able to loosen and soften hardened, cramped, and tightened muscles,
tendons, and ligaments.
She achieved remarkable changes of a body (in posture and in structure), by manipulation of the connective tissue always in regard to its relation of the whole body in the gravitational field.
A Rolfer thus adds structure and helps to return a person to equilibrium and an upright position.
How does the method work?
To begin with, the Rolfer analyses the patients walk and posture. During this first procedure he /she is often already able to detect the main issue underlying the problem.
Over a total of ten sessions, each of which can last up to one and a half hours, the Rolfer contacts with his/ her fingers, palms, and elbows, certain layers of connective tissues on certain parts of the client`s body.
Special care is taken to focus on the pace and the depth of the contact, as well as asking the client to aid by being present with his/her breath and consciously directing his/ her attention onto the area that is being worked upon.
At the end of a successful therapy not only the body is gently brought back into poise but also the psyche. The patients powers of self-Healing are thus inhanced.
When does Rolfing help?
Rolfing can ease pain and has proved beneficial in case of intervertebral disk lesion, "burn out" syndrome, whip- lash injury, tension- headache.
In addition, patients learn certain skills and exercises that enable them to avoid
negative and habitual body movements.
Among others, athletes, actors, musicians, professional dancers, have come to value this treatment, which allows them to perform at their full potential.
Contraindications:
In case of tumour associated diseases, interstitial inflammation, rheumatic diseases, paralyses, degenerative muscle disorders, pregnancy, Rolfing should not
be applied.
Rolfing does not substitute a medical treatment.
How much does a treatment cost?
The cost for a session is between 75-90€.
